Walk the dog

Why this matters
Why bother?
Dogs need physical AND mental stimulation. A daily walk reduces destructive behavior, anxiety, and weight gain — and it's also one of the best things YOU can do for your own mental health.
How often
Most dogs: 2 walks per day, 20-30 min each. High-energy breeds (huskies, border collies, working breeds): 60+ min daily. Low-energy breeds (bulldogs, pugs): 20-30 min total.
Best time: Morning walk before work sets your dog up for a calm day. Evening walk burns end-of-day energy. Avoid midday in summer — pavement above 50°C burns paws.
Pro tip
Let your dog sniff. A 20-min "sniff walk" tires them more mentally than a 40-min march. Sniffing is their version of reading the news.
Common mistake
Same route every day. Dogs need novelty — rotate at least 2-3 routes.
What happens if you skip
Skipped walks → behavioral problems, weight gain, joint issues, shorter lifespan.
